Project Brief
We were commissioned in April 2016 to design an extension and refurbish a curious granite clad building in a remote and unique site in the heart of Dartmoor near Haytor.
Project Detail
We worked extensively with the client who is a highly alternative and creative performance artist. Our brief was to explore ways of connecting the building with the landscape to create a unique sense of place.
The building was previously utilised as a residence as a mining captain.
Care was taken to ensure the building was robust in its detailing as the site was so exposed. Original features were painstaking retained and preserved whilst providing modern / fit for purpose new kitchen and sleeping accommodation.
Following successfully obtaining planning approval from DNP in December 2016, RSA have completed building regulation and construction drawings for this conversation / part new build residential scheme.
The scheme maximises the permissible scale and includes sleeping deck, artist’s office, utility room, WC new kitchen and dining space.
The scheme includes the modification of existing bedroom accommodation with new en-suite and dressing room.
The project is underway being constructed on site and is scheduled for completion in December 2017.
